Wooden Sticks Golf Club Celebrates its 10th Anniversary with Special Dedication

Uxbridge ON, July 30, 2009- Wooden Sticks golf club celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a special dedication to Mr. Richard “Dick” Grimm. To mark the club’s milestone and Mr. Grimm’s support over the past ten years, the sixth and seventh holes will now be known as Grimm’s Gate.

Richard Grimm has been part of the golfing world for many years and is an ambassador to Wooden Sticks. He was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame in 2000; he served as Governor and President for the RCGA and he was made honorary Life Governor in 1975. Most notably he was Chairman for the Canadian Open on six occasions; where he introduced many elements still associated with the championship including the Pro Am. From 1983-1993 he was the Director of the Canadian Tour.

Grimm’s Gate features two black fences with a gold coloured Grimm’s Gate insert that marks the entrance to the secluded holes. Six and seven are original Wooden Sticks designs and are two of the most challenging holes on the course. Number six is a 458 yard par 4 that doglegs to the left with an elevated green that slopes back to front. Number seven is a 400 yard par 4 with a large tree filled ravine and three bunkers in front and one at the back of the green.

Over the past ten years Wooden Sticks has become one of Canada’s premier destination golf courses. The course was design by architect Ron Garl and opened in the fall of 1999 for introductory play, then to the public in the spring of 2000. The course features twelve golf holes inspired by the PGA tour and six original designs, highlighted by holes 12 and 13 from Augusta National and TPC’s 17th Island Green.

The Wooden Sticks inclusive golf package is the only one of it’s kind in the Greater Toronto Area and includes 18 holes, shared power carts, practice facilities and two meals. In 2005 Wooden Sticks introduced six- two bedroom / two bath cabins accommodating groups of up to 24 players. In the spring of 2010 the new banquet facility will be open to host tournaments, meetings and weddings.
